I’m Jenepher Hintz and I live in the world acclaimed Bunya Mountains, about 100-kilometres North West of the city of Toowoomba in Queensland. I have completed 2 Youngcare walking challenges whilst raising much need funds for them to support young people with high care needs who deserve the freedom to choose where they live. In January 2018 I plan on completing this new challenge The Yukon Adventure for Youngcare.
As a fulltime carer for my beautiful husband who suffered a brain tumour in his 20’s followed by several strokes. Peter is now in his 50’s and requires my full-time care...but when I need a break to recharge my batteries, I am forced to seek assistance from aged-care facilities. This is no place for young people, like my Pete, who require 24/7 care. Whilst he has been living at home all this time we are now faced with this very issue of placing Pete into aged care since his last bleed of the brain in August this year.
That’s why I’m accepting this challenge. We need to get our young Australians out of Aged Care facilities, into more appropriate accommodation and help change the landscape so that young people with high care needs have more control over their own care than ever before.
